Planning Committee (PC)

The Planning Committee promotes the reliability of the interconnected bulk electric systems in North America and assesses and encourages resource adequacy. It also provides a forum for addressing planning and adequacy issues within the industry. The Planning Committee supports the NERC reliability mission by executing the policies, directives, and assignments of the Board of Trustees and by advising the Board on matters related to bulk electric system transmission planning and reliability, and resource adequacy. The Planning Committee also maintains a work plan that prioritizes the existing and future work of the committee and its subgroups consistent with the business and strategic plans of NERC. The Planning Committee's responsibilities include the following functions:

·         Reliability Assessments

·         Events Analysis and Information Exchange

·         Reliability Metrics and Benchmarking   

  •  Provide technical advice and subject matter expert support to each of the other NERC programs, and serve as a forum to integrate the outputs of these programs, specifically:

·         Standards

·         Compliance

·         Readiness evaluations

  • Develop and maintain documents and procedures related to the reliable planning and assessment of interconnected bulk power systems, including but not limited to:

·         Functional model

·         Reference documents

·         Field test procedures

  • Provide technical opinions and guidance on planning reliability concepts and philosophies.

Reporting

The Planning Committee reports to the NERC Board of Trustees.
