Reliability Standards Effective Dates for Mandatory Enforcement

Mandatory Standards Subject to Enforcement | Standards Awaiting Regulatory Approval |

Inactive Standards

The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board (UARB) must explicitly adopt a NERC reliability standard per its Memorandum of Understanding with NERC.  The UARB further sets the date for the standard to become mandatory and enforceable in Nova Scotia. The UARB is developing a process for consideration of proposed reliability standards for adoption  that will include notice to interested parties and possibly public hearings.

There are no NERC reliability standards that have been approved by the UARB as mandatory and enforceable in Nova Scotia.  It is anticipated that it will take until at least the end of 2009 to fully consider and reach determination on standards that have to date been submitted by NERC.  Until such time that reliability standards are approved for use in Nova Scotia, entities in Nova Scotia are held to compliance with the current NERC standards by virtue of its membership in the Northeast Power Coordinating Council.

NERC Board of Trustees Approval: the date on which the NERC Board of Trustees adopted the standards.

Regulatory Approval Date: the date the applicable regulatory authority approved the standard to be implemented in the jurisdiction.

Mandatory Implementation Date: the date on which the standard becomes mandatory and enforceable in accordance with the existing laws of the jurisdiction and the approval granted by the regulatory authority.

BOT Approved Effective Date: the date approved by the NERC Board of Trustees for the standard to be implemented.
