Severe Impact Resilience Task Force Launched, NERC Announces

WASHINGTON, DC – The Severe Impact Resilience Task Force (SIRTF) has been formed, has named chairs and is beginning work, announced the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). Tom Bowe, the executive director of Reliability Integration at PJM Interconnection, will serve as task force chair; and Paul Johnson, managing director of Transmission Operations at AEP, will be vice-chair.

The purpose of the SIRTF is to provide guidance and options to enhance the resilience of the bulk power system to withstand and recover from severe-impact scenarios, specifically coordinated physical and cyber attacks and geomagnetic disturbances. The task force will propose approaches, practices and plans to reduce the impact of these events through effective emergency operations and timely restoration of the bulk power system.
