Statement on May FERC Open Meeting Action
WASHINGTON, D.C.The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission took action today on NERC’s proposed standard on recovery from balancing contingency events.
FERC issued a notice of proposed rule making for Reliability Standard BAL-002-2 — Disturbance Control Performance - Contingency Reserve for Recovery from a Balancing Contingency Event, which is designed to ensure that the Balancing Authority or Reserve Sharing Group balances resources and demand and returns the Balancing Authority’s or Reserve Sharing Group’s Area Control Error to defined values following a Reportable Balancing Contingency Event. The standard clarifies specific timelines for recovery, sets continent-wide requirements for events that impact frequency, and streamlines requirements.
Reliability is a priority for NERC and industry, and we will continue the work with FERC and stakeholders toward assuring the reliability of the North American bulk power system.
