The Critical Infrastructure Department (CID) coordinates NERC’s efforts to improve physical security and cybersecurity to ensure the reliability of the North American bulk power system. Working closely with industry and government, CID analyzes and shares timely critical infrastructure protection (CIP) information through many different venues. Some examples of CID’s outreach activities are:
- The Grid Security Exercise (GridEx) series, a North American-wide biennial physical security and cybersecurity exercise;
- The Grid Security Conference (GridSecCon) series, an annual forum for policy and information sharing on CIP and other security issues;
- The Security Reliability Program (SRP), a program that examines whether a bulk power system entity's Risk-Based Assessment Methodology (RBAM), found within CIP-002-3, is sufficient to ensure the safe, reliable operation of the bulk power system; and
CID regularly shares products covering a variety of topics, including standards development, risk assessment and preparedness, and industry alerts with industry and government. CID also uses webinars and conferences to raise awareness on important issues.
