ES&D:

NERC maintains and annually publishes electricity supply and demand information for North America encompassing both current and historical long-term capacity and demand projections. ES&D data include aggregated ten-year projections of electricity demand, electric generating capacity, and transmission line mileage that the NERC Reliability Assessment Subcommittee uses in their annual long-term reliability assessments of the interconnected bulk electric system in North America. In addition the data includes unit-level statistics on existing generators, planned generator additions and retirements, and proposed equipment modifications.

Data Features

You will receive the most recent data set (2007-2016 forecast with 2006 actual data), as well as the 1990 through 2006 ten-year projections and the 1997 through 2006 monthly data sets. The data sets include the following summarized actual and forecast Regional and subregional data:

• Electricity Demand, annual and monthly

• Net Energy for Load, annual and monthly

• Capacity Resources and Demand

• Capacity Purchases and Sales

• Generating Capacity by Fuel

• Transmission Lines, Existing and Planned, (230 kV and above) summary

• Existing Generating Units

• Planned Generating Units 

• Planned Changes to Generators

Format

• The ES&D is only available via download.

• The files are contained in a self-extracting zip file.

• Each data set has already been exported to spreadsheet format for easy use.
