Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)  

EPRI was established in 1973 as an independent, nonprofit center for public interest energy and environmental research. EPRI's members represent over 90% of the electricity generated in the United States and include organizations in many countries. EPRI’s Grid Operations and Planning area in the Power Delivery and Market department engages in research and applications of advanced grid operations and planning methodologies and tools. EPRI developed the Operator Training Simulator (OTS) currently used for training grid operators in this industry. EPRI also developed the highly popular and useful text book, “EPRI Power System Dynamics Tutorial”. EPRI is now offering special training courses in technical subjects related to grid operator training, such as wide-area power flow, power system state estimation, under voltage and voltage instability load shedding, and will be offering other courses related to on-line reliability assessment, system restoration and system protection, and probabilistic reliability assessment, among others. WAPA’s Electric Power Training Center (EPTC) offers hands-on training on a real power system. EPTC has courses in various power system operation topics, dispatching and specialty courses.  EPTS specializes in offering training courses using a fully integrated, full-scale miniature power system (MPS). Students apply classroom theory to real world problems and situations using the MPS and a DTS to test their problem solving abilities.  In addition, EPTC offers classes for NERC and WECC certification preparation.
