Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)  

EPRI was established in 1973 as an independent, nonprofit center for public interest energy and environmental research. EPRI's members represent over 90% of the electricity generated in the United States and include organizations in many countries. EPRI’s Grid Operations and Planning area in the Power Delivery and Market department engages in research and applications of advanced grid operations and planning methodologies and tools. EPRI developed the Operator Training Simulator (OTS) currently used for training grid operators in this industry. EPRI also developed the highly popular and useful text book, “EPRI Power System Dynamics Tutorial”. EPRI is now offering special training courses in technical subjects related to grid operator training, such as wide-area power flow, power system state estimation, under voltage and voltage instability load shedding, and will be offering other courses related to on-line reliability assessment, system restoration and system protection, and probabilistic reliability assessment, among others. EPRI will continuously update the content of its technical seminars, workshops and conferences with respect to changes to the technologies and standards. Iowa State University (ISU)
Iowa State University (ISU), founded in 1858, is major land-grant institution located in Ames, Iowa.  Of the 26,000 students enrolled at ISU, about 1,000 undergraduates and 250 graduates are in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.  On average 50 undergraduate and 15 graduate students with power majors are graduated each year.  The Electric Power and Energy Systems (EPES) faculty is one of the most active in the country with both national and international research sponsors.  A number of undergraduate and graduate level courses in power engineering are offered on-line (video-streamed or archived) each year through the well-established Engineering Distance Education program leading to certificates or masters degrees.  Courses with CE Hours for power system operators have been staged in the past and are under preparation now.  For more information visit us on the web at: www.ucs.iastate.edu/mnet/ecs/home.html

Southwestern Power Administration's Power Operations Training Center (POTC) provides training on a space available basis to system operators, dispatchers, and others in the electric utility industry that have an interest in learning about the principles and operation of Power Generation, Power Transmission and Power Distribution equipment.

It is the mission of the Power Operations Training Center (POTC) to provide such electric power operations training, strive to meet the ever changing needs of the electric power industry, and maintain standards of excellence.

Course offerings include: Power System Restoration, Power Generation Operation and Construction, Power System Switching, North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) Certification, Power System Dynamics, System Protection, Voltage Control, and Web-Based Online Power Modules available through our Virtual University.
