Adequate Resources Exist for a Normal Winter Demand, Winter Assessment Finds
ATLANTA – While bulk power system operators have adequate resources and reserve margins to maintain reliability if the 2014-2015 winter is normal, periods of extreme cold could pose a significant challenge to ensuring that fossil-fired power plants have enough fuel to meet anticipated demand, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation’s winter outlook finds. The 2014-2015 Winter Reliability Assessment provides an independent North American perspective of bulk power system reliability from December 2014 through February 2015. NERC examined key indicators related to electricity demand and generation projections.
