Assessment Identifies Adequate Generation, Transmission System Resources for Summer
ATLANTA – As part of its ongoing efforts to identify reliability challenges and make recommendations as needed, the North American Electric Corporation released its independent summer assessment today. The assessment provides a high-level perspective on the adequacy of the generation resources and transmission systems to meet projected summer peak demands. While the 2014 Summer Reliability Assessment finds peak demand forecasts have remained flat from last year, NERC remains concerned with the ongoing resource mix changes, the changing operational characteristics of resources, and the continued retirement of generation across the bulk power system.
