Board Approves ERO Strategic Plan and Metrics; Accepts Report on Risk Priorities
ATLANTA – The North American Electric Reliability Corporation had its last Board of Trustees meeting of 2016 on November 2 in Atlanta. Opening remarks were made by Commissioner Colette Honorable of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission; and Liz Dalton, principal deputy assistant secretary of the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability at the Department of Energy.
Board of Trustees Chair Fred Gorbet spoke on the importance of the Electric Reliability Organization’s relationships with both FERC and DOE, noting how essential it was to achieving the ERO’s goals. Gerry Cauley, NERC president and CEO, praised efforts of the ERO and stakeholders in his President’s report, saying ERO Enterprise efforts are making positive impacts on reliability.
“We are making a difference. We are seeing improvement in the ability to manage and control reliability risks. The information used to calculate our metrics and our analysis of that information enables us to affect change,” Cauley said. “We are better able to set targets and gather data. We are able to ask why and find out what we need to do to mitigate risks and reduce impacts.”
