Industry's Winter Preparations Reduce Impact of Record-Breaking Cold
ATLANTA – Despite a long winter accentuated by record-breaking cold temperatures across the eastern United States and Canada, the bulk power system remained reliable, a preliminary assessment shows. The industry was prepared and able to meet the needed demand during the January 7-8 and February 15-20 cold snaps. The North American Electric Reliability Corporation found that the bulk power system performed well under conditions this winter, compared to last year. This is due in large part to industry’s effective focus on planning and timely preparations for extreme cold weather.
