NERC Issues Cybersecurity Standards Transition Guidance
WASHINGTON, DC -- The North American Electric Reliability Corporation developed guidance to provide flexibility with the transition from CIP Version 3 to CIP Version 4, while CIP Version 5 is pending at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. While the effective date for CIP Version 4 compliance is April 1, 2014, the guidance clarifies which assets will be the primary focus of NERC and Regional Entity audits. NERC recognizes that timely approval by FERC of CIP Version 5 will reduce uncertainty and industry costs. However, NERC recognizes that a plan must be in place if CIP Version 5 is not approved soon, and this guidance is offered to assist with that transition. Cyber Transition Guidance
