NERC Participates in FERC Technical Conference on Geomagnetic Disturbances and the Grid

Experts from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) participated in a technical conference focused on geomagnetic disturbances and their effect on the bulk power system. Gerry Cauley, president and chief executive officers, and Mark Lauby, vice president and director of Reliability Assessment and Performance Analysis, participated in two-panel discussions hosted by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission staff. The conference focused on the risks and impacts from geomagnetically induced currents on transformers and other equipment on the bulk power system, as well as options for mitigating the risks.
