NERC Participates in Technical Conference on Geomagnetic Disturbances
WASHINGTON, DC – Experts from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) participated in a technical conference focused on geomagnetic disturbances and their effect on the bulk power system today. Gerry Cauley, president and chief executive officer, and Mark Lauby, vice president and director of Reliability Assessment and Performance Analysis, participated in two-panel discussions hosted by Federal Regulatory Energy Commission (FERC) staff. The conference focused on the risks and impacts from geomagnetically induced currents on transformers and other equipment on the bulk power system, as well as options for mitigating the risks.
