NERC and FERC Staff Recognized for Work on Joint Cold Weather Inquiry

WASHINGTON, D.C. – FERC Chairman Glick recognized the dedicated work of FERC and NERC staff on producing the joint report focused on the February 2021 cold weather event at FERCs November open meeting. The report looks at the impacts the freeze had on the Bulk Electric System in Texas and other parts of the South Central United States and provides recommendations for avoiding the situation in the future. Glick commended the team of nearly 50 subject matter experts for conducting such a comprehensive report in nine months and presented awards to the four team leads:

  • Steve Noess, Director of Regulatory Programs, NERC
  • Kiel Lyons, Senior Manager of Compliance Assurance, NERC
  • David Huff, Electrical Engineer, Office of Electrical Reliability, FERC
  • Heather Polzin, Attorney Advisor, Office of Enforcement, FERC

Noess, who joined NERC in May 2011, and Lyons, who joined NERC in June 2015, were presented with the Chairman’s Certificate of Appreciation, while the FERC team received the Commission Merit Award.

The ERO Enterprise appreciates the dedicated efforts of FERC, NERC, and Regional Entity staff on this report and will continue to work toward assuring the reliability of the North American bulk power system.
