WASHINGTON, D.C. — It is with great sadness that NERC announces that Bruce Scherr, long-time NERC Board member, passed away on March 29. Scherr served on NERC’s Board of Trustees from 2002–2015 in a variety of positions including vice chair, chair of the Finance and Audit Committee, chair of the Compliance Committee and as a member of the Standards Oversight and Technology and Nominating Committees. At the time of his passing, he was serving on the Board of Directors for Southwest Power Pool.
Scherr will be remembered for bringing his economic and business acumen to NERC’s oversight of the reliability of the grid. Known for his great sense of humor, he guided the Board and NERC leadership with great skill, a caring heart and a smile. Our thoughts are with Bruce’s wife and family at this difficult time.
“Bruce was a dedicated and tremendously talented member of our Board and a good friend,” said Roy Thilly, NERC’s Board chair. “The thoughts and prayers of the entire NERC family go out to Bruce’s family during this difficult time.”
The Scherr family conducted a private, family service at Howard-Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation and Event Center on April 1 in North Palm Beach, Florida. A larger celebration of his life will take place later this year. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a favorite charity.
