April and May 2018 Fault Induced Solar Photovoltaic Resource Interruption Disturbances Report

On April 20, 2018 (Angeles Forest disturbance) and May 11, 2018 (Palmdale Roost disturbance), bulk power system disturbances involved the loss of solar photovoltaic (PV) facilities in response to normally cleared transmission line faults. These events were analyzed by the ERO in coordination with affected entities including the Western Electricity Coordinating Council, California Independent System Operator, Southern California Edison, affected Generator Owners and Generator Operators, and inverter manufacturers. This disturbance report documents the analyses of these disturbances, and provides key findings and recommendations for industry.
