NERC Releases New Infographics to Support Entities in IBR Registration Initiative

WASHINGTON, D.C. – NERC developed two easy-to-follow infographics that help entities involved in the Inverter-Based Resource (IBR) Registration Initiative by making the registration process clear and accessible. NERC recognizes the critical importance of ensuring that identified entities are integrated smoothly and educated on the scope and role of NERC and its Regional Entities, collectively known as the Electric Reliability Organization (ERO) Enterprise.

For newly identified entities, the Joining the ERO Enterprise infographic provides background on the ERO Enterprise and its mission and provides a step-by-step overview of the registration process.

For currently registered entities, the Expanding Your Registration infographic explains how to update existing registrations in CORES to reflect new Category 2 Generator Owner/Generator Operator responsibilities.

These resources are part of a broader effort to welcome new participants into the ERO Enterprise and provide the tools and guidance needed to support reliability and compliance from the start.

The IBR Registration Initiative is one way in which NERC is addressing the challenges associated with increasing levels of IBRs. This initiative, directed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in 2022 and launched in 2023, seeks to identify and register owners and operators of currently unregistered bulk power system-connected IBRs. In May, NERC entered the third and final milestone of this initiative, in which candidates will be registered, thereby closing the identified reliability gap. For more information, please visit the IBR Registration Initiative Quick Reference Guide
