Electricity Supply & Demand (ES&D)
Overview
NERC collects, maintains, and annually publishes the Electricity Supply and Demand (ES&D) database, which includes 10-year projections for the North American bulk power system (BPS). Data are validated by the NERC Regions, NERC staff, and the Reliability Assessment Subcommittee (RAS) during NERC’s annual development of the Long-Term Reliability Assessment (LTRA).
 
Data are presented for each NERC Region (and subregions where applicable) for years 1990-2010.  For years 2011 to present, data are presented by NERC Assessment Area (based on existing ISO/RTO footprints; otherwise, based on individual Planning Coordinator or group of Planning Coordinators).   Some information in the ES&D has been modified to protect potentially market-sensitive information. The 2016 ES&D database comprises all data provided in the previous year’s workbook and the following data collected in 2016:
