Statement on NAESB’s ‘Gas Electric Harmonization Forum Report’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – While NERC is still reviewing the North American Energy Standards Board’s (NAESB) report, we have long stated that natural gas is essential to the reliability of the grid during our industry’s energy transformation. The “Gas Electric Harmonization Forum Report” represents the culmination of the hard work done by NAESB and stakeholders to address this critical challenge facing our industry.

“Although we are still digesting the NAESB report, it is clear that its insights provide a strong framework for addressing many of the issues NERC has identified in our winter event evaluations. We remain committed to working with FERC Chairman Willie Phillips and all the Commissioners, as well as with gas and electric industry leadership, to ensure this report is used and the recommendations are implemented,” said Jim Robb, NERC president and CEO.

NERC commends the efforts of the forum co-chairs, Robert Gee, Dr. Susan Tierney and Pat Wood III, and NAESB for this crucial report that provides keen insight into and progresses the discussions on collaboration between these two critical infrastructures. This collaboration is imperative if we are to continue assuring a reliable, resilient grid now and into the future.
