WASHINGTON, D.C. – NERC President and CEO Jim Robb spoke on the opening panel of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) technical conference, Meeting the Challenge of Resource Adequacy in Regional Transmission Organization and Independent System Operator Regions. The two-day conference is taking place June 4–5, 2025, at FERC’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Mounting resource adequacy challenges are elevating the risk profile across a broad swath of North America, leaving few areas untouched. Robb discussed the shifting landscape of resource adequacy, including resource retirements outpacing replacements, the need to modernize adequacy approaches, and NERC’s commitment to working with industry and FERC to develop standardized adequacy criteria to help ensure grid reliability.
